Create a business plan

Learn about writing and revising a business plan for your new or established business with a member of SCORE, Counselors to America’s Small Business today at 10 a.m. A librarian from the Information Services Department’s Business and Investment Center (BIC) will introduce print and electronic sources that can provide information for developing your business plan.

Library hosts artwork

Residents are invited to view the artwork from the Annual Fitch High School Art Show at the Austintown library May 7-11 during library hours. A reception will take place on Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.. Light refreshments will be served.

Make and take May flowers

Children of all ages are invited to cut, tear, scrunch and glue tissue paper to a pattern to create a flower, or make your own, during library hours through the month of May.

The Austintown library will host Fun Time for 4s and 5s on Wednesday at 11 a.m. The program will include developmentally-appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that will help children, ages 4-5, become successful readers. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Tales and Talk for 2s, 3s

The Austintown library will hosts Baby Brilliant: Tales and Talk for 2s and 3s on Wednesday at 10 a.m. The program will include developmentally-appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that will help children, ages 2-3, become successful readers. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Bonding with babies, books

The Austintown library will host Bonding with Babies and Books for babies 6-23 months on Thursday at 11 a.m. The program includes developmentally-appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activites that will help children become successful readers. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Divelbiss inducted to Nursing Honor Society

Janet Divelbiss of Austintown was inducted to the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing at Saint Joseph’s College of Maine. The society honors undergraduate and graduate nursing students who demonstrate excellence in scholarship and nurse leaders exhibiting exceptional achievements in nursing.

Divelbiss is a registered nurse who is pursuing her master’s degree in nursing through the Graduate and Professional Studies division at Saint Joseph’s, which offers online education for working professionals.

Appreciation dinner set

A Senior Citizens Appreciation Dinner will be on May 9 at 4 p.m. in the Austintown Middle School cafeteria. The dinner is for Austintown senior citizens only. The cost is $2 at the door. To reserve a seat, call 797-3900, ext. 1501.

Clothing pantry set for today

A Clothing Pantry will take place today from 10 a.m. to noon at West Side Community Center. The pantry will include free clothing for men, women and children. West Side Community Center is located at 304 Matta Ave.

All libraries in the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County system will be closed May 13, 27 and 28.

ABWA meeting set Tuesday

The Mill Creek Chapter of American Business Women’s Association will hold a meeting on Tuesday at The Stonebridge Grill and Tavern on Route 224 in Boardman. Networking will be from 6-6:30 p.m. and dinner will follow. The cost is $16.50 and will include chicken, potato, vegetables and brown dessert. On the agenda for the meeting is voting for new officers for the 2012-2013 year and reports on the Chinese auction fundraiser.

Dairy Queen hosts kids cake decorating

The Cornersburg and Austintown Dairy Queens will host Kids Cake Decorating for Mom on Saturday. The Cornersburg location, 3555 S. Meridian Road, will host the event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the Austintown location, 146 N. Canfield-Niles Road, will be hosting it from 1 to 4 p.m. A qualified DQ cake decorator will be on hand to assist. Kids can create their own design, add sprinkles, gel, icing and candy or place an edible image of their choice on the cake. This is an open house event. It only takes about 15 minutes to decorate a cake. Call to reserve a spot so the appropriate amount of decorators are available to assist children. Children must be supervised by an adult.

Regional Chamber luncheon set

Cleveland Browns head coach Pat Schurmur will headline a Regional Chamber executive luncheon titled “Football Friday with the Cleveland Browns” on May 18 at the Maronite Center, 1555 S. Meridian Road. Registration, networking and lunch begin at 11:15 a.m., with the program starting at noon.

Schurmur will talk about plans for the 2012-2013 season and be available to field questions about the team, including his take on how the Browns did in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Current and alumni players will be on hand at the luncheon as well as the voice of the Browns, Jim Donovan.

This event is open to Chamber members and nonmembers. Cost is $25 and includes the program, lunch and a Browns souvenir as well as give-a-ways throughout the program.

Baby bargain boutique set

Boardman Park will be hosting its annual Baby Bargain Boutique on May 19 from 9 a.m. to noon at Masters Pavilion. Admission is free. The boutique will have usable baby, children and maternity clothing, toys, books, furniture and much more for children under the age of five. Block watch hosts garage sale

The Austintown Wickliffe Block Watch is accepting clean and usable donations for its garage sale Aug. 28-29. All proceeds from the sale will go toward the group’s annual block party which is open to all Austintown residents.

The block party is set for June 30 and will include free food, beverages, games, music, face painting and more.

Health center owner to discuss fibromyalgia

Cindy, owner of Cindy’s Health and Vitality in Warren, will be the guest speaker at The Mahoning Valley Fibromyalgia Support Group’s May 16 meeting at 7 p.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church, 425 Crestview Dr. in Boardman. Anyone with an interest in this topic may attend.

Murder Mystery dinner needs suspects

The Myrddin Winery in Lake Milton will host a Murder Mystery dinner May 25 at 7 p.m. and is searching for people to participate in the show.

Wound Care center relocates

The St. Elizabeth Boardman Wound Care Center has moved to 7010 South Ave., Suite 6 in Boardman. The new office, at the corner of South Avenue and Trailwood Drive, opened this morning and is convenient toRoute 224 and Interstate 680, providing easier access for patients than its former DeBartolo Place office.

Italian Fest to be in August

The Greater Youngstown Italian Fest will be held on Aug. 3-5 in downtown Youngstown. The festival is now accepting applications for the Italian Man and Woman of the Year.

Registration opens for Women’s Heart Day

Registration for Woman’s Heart Day, a free health and wellness extravaganza provided by Humility of Mary Health Partners has begun. Provided as a service to the community, Woman’s Heart Day will take place on May 10 from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Covelli Centre. This annual event features free health screenings, fitness demonstrations, educational presentations on a variety of women’s health issues, cooking demonstrations, refreshments and giveaways.

Among the health screenings offered this year are bone density, lipid panel (cholesterol) and glucose testing, arterial disease assessments, blood pressure readings, vision screenings, body fat measurements and health age assessments. Eat pasta, support Tyler

A pasta dinner in support of Tyler Branca will be held on May 20 from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church, 7345 Westview Drive. The cost is $9 for adults and $6 for children 10 and under. Dinner includes pasta, meatballs, salad, roll, dessert, coffee, tea and orange drink. Pasta, sauce and meatballs are donated by Cafe Capri.

Branca is a 21-year-old college student who was recently diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Monetary donations are also accepted at any First National Bank — just ask for the Tyler Branca Fund.

Trash and Treasure Sale set

TOPS No. 2191 is hosting a Trash and Treasure Sale today from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Wickliffe Presbyterian Church, 45 Idlewood Road in Austintown. The sale will include a Chinese auction and concessions will be available.

The Austintown library is celebrating Earth Day all month. Children of all ages are invited to try their hand at a paper maze and receive a surprise. Visit the Austintown library during library hours through the month of April.

Car Trunk and Treasure Sale set

The Ursuline Center Car Trunk and Treasure Sale will be July 14 at 9 a.m. in the parking lot of the Ursuline Center on Shields Road in Canfield. Spaces are now available for cars. The cost for a side-by-side space is $25, but the fee will increase to $30 after June 30. All spaces are first-come, first-served.

The sale will also include food and refreshments on sale as well as a book, bake and furniture sale that be will held inside the center. The sale of pets, firearms and fireworks will not be permitted.

MetroParks presents Children’s Book Festival

The Children’s Book Festival: Plant the Seed to Read will be held today from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Fellows Riverside Gardens. The event will be a day of fun for children and their families together enjoying authors, illustrators, book characters, storytellers and many activities for children. Bring your camera to be photographed with Curious George or the animals from the Akron Zoo. Admission is free.
