38 eligible to be Warren officers

WARREN

The Warren Civil Service Commission has certified 38 men and women as eligible to be hired for entry-level patrol officer in the city.

For now, the department has two openings, Police Chief Tim Bowers said.

Of the 38, three are women and one is a black man, said Sue Burns, civil- service commission clerk. She has no way of knowing for sure whether any other minorities are among the 38, Burns said.

The city is giving a test for entry-level Warren firefighter next month at Warren G. Harding High School.

The fire department needs about three firefighters to meet the requirements of its federal, $5 million, two-year, federal Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response program grant.

Funding for the positions is guaranteed only through the end of the grant — Nov. 28, 2012 — officials have said.
