ODNR issues 2 new permits for horizontal wells in Columbiana Co.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has issued permits for two new horizontal wells in Columbiana County.

Permits were issued last week for locations in Hanover Township on Laughlin Mill Road between Trinity Church and Yair roads and Elk Run Township off Miller Road between Roberts and Woodville School roads. Both permits were granted to Oklahoma-based Chesapeake Exploration LLC.

These are the 33rd and 34th horizontal-drilling permits issued for the Mahoning, Columbiana and Trumbull county area.

The state has issued a total of 207 permits for horizontal wells. Sixty-two wells have been drilled thus far, and seven of the horizontal wells are producing, according to ODNR officials.

ODNR records say no local wells currently are producing dry gas, wet gas or oil.
