Finalist pulls out of search
Staff report
Canfield
One of the final two candidates for Canfield superintendent has pulled out of the search.
Paul Pendleton, with search firm Finding Leaders, said that David Janofa, current superintendent with Sandy Valley Local School District in Magnolia, Ohio, withdrew his r sum late Wednesday afternoon.
The Canfield Board of Education began its search for a new superintendent earlier this year. Dante Zambrini, who currently holds the position, will retire June 1.
Board President Adrianne Sturm said the board received about 50 applications and recently narrowed the field from five candidates to the final two — Janofa and Alex Geordan, superintendent with Pymatuning Valley School District in Andover, Ohio.
Janofa didn’t return calls Wednesday to comment on his decision.
Pendleton said the pair were scheduled for individual public interviews Tuesday and Wednesday before members of the Mahoning County Education Service Center and Finding Leaders. Both entities are helping Canfield with the search and interview process.
Pendleton said they’re not yet sure whether they will give the job to the remaining candidate, Geordan, or review other candidates’ r sum s to take Janofa’s place in the final two.
“We don’t know, yet, what we’re going to do,” Pendleton said. “We’ll have more information Friday about how we plan to proceed.”
