Dr. Richard G. Barr was inducted as a Fellow in the American College of Radiology (ACR) during the 89th ACR Annual Meeting and Chapter Leadership conference in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Barr is president of Radiology Consultants, Inc., a staff radiologist at Northside Medical Center and Southwoods X-ray and Open MRI and a professor of radiology at Northeastern Ohio Medical University.
He is a member of the ACR, the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound, the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine and the Mahoning Medical Society. Dr. Barr received his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University, completed his residency in diagnostic radiology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and a Fellowship in cross-sectional imaging at the University of California San Francisco.
Dr. Barr, author of several articles and an authority on breast ultrasound and elastography, has lectured to physicians around the world on his research. He was the local investigator for the American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ACRIN), National Lung Screening Trial, and the ACRIN trial on ultrasound in women with dense breasts at increased risk for breast cancer.
Emergency responders

Five emergency responders employed by Mercer County hospitals recently completed U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security training offered by the Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) in Anniston, Ala.
They are: Albert Boland, director of Pre-hospital Care and Community Initiatives, and Ronald Thompson, program director of facilities, both at UPMC Horizon; and Greg Bookwalter, Emergency Care Center technician, Kurt Ellefson, director of the EMS Institute and Emergency Management, and Donnee Huffer, Emergency Care Center clinical manager, all at Sharon Regional Health System.
The CDP, operated by Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency, provides advanced training for emergency-response providers, emergency managers and other government officials from state, local, and tribal governments
Home weatherization

The Mahoning-Youngstown Community Action partnership is scheduling appointments for its Pipp Plus (Percentage of Income Payment Plan) and Home Weatherization program. Potential applicants must call 866-223-1125 to make an appointment and stay on the line until they receive a confirmation number. Appointments are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Applicants must provide photo IDs for anyone 18 and older in the household and Social Security cards are required for all household members.
Rehabilitation unit opens at UPMC
GREENVILLE, Pa.
UPMC Horizon’s Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit, newly renamed the UPMC Rehabilitation Institute at UPMC Horizon, will celebrate its new space and name change with a community open house May 23 from noon to 4 p.m. Tours of the unit by physicians and staff will be provided, and refreshments will be served.

Wound treatment

The UPMC Horizon Center for Wound Treatment and Hyperbaric Medicine at 2120 Likens Lane is now known as UPMC Wound Healing Services at UPMC Horizon. Services include hyperbaric oxygen therapy and other treatment options for acute and chronic, difficult-to-heal wounds.
