ACTION AWARDS DINNER | Recipients Seven students and educators received Frances Kerpsack Humanitarian awards for their contributions and accomplishments during Tuesday’s 10th annual fundraiser


Ashia Evans, a Youngstown State University student who made the Dean’s List for the fall 2011 semester and is to receive an associate’s degree in liberal arts and science this month from YSU. She also volunteered two years at the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley.

Melanie Hameed, a 10th-grade English teacher at Warren G. Harding High School in Warren and a 21-year teacher in Warren City Schools. Hameed also chairs the school’s English department and is vice president of Warren Education Association.

Pam Mercer, a full-time bus driver with Western Reserve Transit Authority and part-time student at Eastern Gateway Community College, where she holds a 3.8 grade-point average and is majoring in business management.

Sharon Ragan, an eighth-grade math teacher and a pre-engineering teacher for students in grades six to eight at the Chaney Campus of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. She’s also Youngstown City School District’s 2011-12 Teacher of the Year.

Loree Richardson, associate superintendent of Warren City Schools. Her duties include supervision of programs related to staff development and student enrichment and intervention, as well as registration, attendance and discipline.

Leon Robinson, a Youngstown Early College senior who serves as a student-board member and a representative before the district’s board of education.

Ann St. George, director of the Early Childhood Learning Center at St. Luke Catholic School in Boardman. She also served seven years as a teacher and curriculum director at Millcreek Children’s Center in Youngstown. Source: ACTION
