Firefighters race to contain Colorado wildfire

CONIFER, Colo. (AP) — Federal fire crews are racing to contain a 6-square-mile wildfire before high winds, record heat and low humidity return this weekend.

Residents of about 180 homes who fled the wildfire earlier this week are waiting today to hear when they can return.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office says the challenge for the coming weekend will be the forecast for higher winds.

Authorities say contingency plans are in place in the event that the wind pushes the fire over containment lines.
