Niles woman says stray dog bit her

A woman living at 923 Niles-Vienna Road SE reported being bitten by a stray dog in her back yard at 3:46 p.m. Saturday.

The woman had bite marks on her upper arm that she said the stray dog made. The incident occurred after the stray approached her animals, the woman said.

The dog was secured at the home, and the Trumbull County dog warden was notified, Niles police said.

Forum on fracking Thursday in Poland

The neighborhood group Sisters Against Subterranean Sludge will present a forum about fracking from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Holy Family Parish Hall, 2729 Center Road.

Fracking is the process in which water, chemicals and sand are blasted into rocks thousands of feet below the ground to unlock natural gas and oil. It has come under fire because of its potential environmental concerns.

Speakers will include academic experts from Youngstown State University and the University of Pittsburgh as well as Mahoning County public health officials. Information about the event is online at PolandOhioFracking.com.

Woman reports theft of TV, jewelry

A resident of North Road near North Main Street reported the theft of $2,800 in cash, a flat-screen television, three game systems, games for the systems, prescription drugs and jewelry at 11:28 p.m. Saturday.

The resident said she left her home at 10:30 a.m. and returned at 11:30 p.m. to find that the items had been taken, Niles police said.
