The Youngstown Saxon Club recently selected two of its members as Lady and Man of the Year. Margaret Teutsch and Ralph Scheetz were the respective recipients chosen by the Ladies Society Lodge 22 and the Men’s Lodge 30 of the Alliance of Transylvanian Saxons. The honors were bestowed at the 36th annual President’s Goulash Dinner March 24. Walter Finger was recognized at the event as a 50-year member.
Teutsch grew up in Youngstown, graduated from Fitch and has been employed at a local bank for 31 years. A Canfield resident, she has been a member of Saxon Ladies Lodge 22 for 46 years and actively supports its functions.
She also supports the projects of Men’s Lodge 30. She and her husband, Michael, chosen as Man of the Year in 2010, have two children and four grandchildren who also are involved in Saxon Club activities. The couple are members of Bethel Lutheran Church in Boardman.
Scheetz is a lifelong resident of Austintown and a graduate of Fitch High School. He and his wife, Mavis, have raised seven children, and they have 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He is a retired machinist and served two years with the U.S. Army.
The couple participate in the Saxon couples boccie league, where Scheetz is a commissioner. He also is involved with Amvets 35 and the Brownlee Woods Rod and Gun Club, and he is past president of the North Lima Little League Baseball organization.
He and his wife are members of the Austintown United Methodist Church, where he is a trustee and she is a secretary.
