Submit info for Holy Week, Easter

The Vindicator will run a listing of area services that are open to the public in observance of Palm Sunday, April 1; Holy Thursday, April 5; Good Friday, April 6; Holy Saturday, April 7; and Easter, April 8. The deadline to submit information is 5 p.m. Wednesday and publication will be Saturday. Information should include the denomination and name of the church, address, city or suburb, the day, time, type of service, your name and a phone number for verification. Passover service

Liberty Bible Church, 2111 Sodom-Hutchings Road, will host a re-creation of Jesus’ Last Supper, a Jewish Passover, at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The presentation, with the table set with items traditionally used at Passover, will be given by Stewart Weinisch of Jews for Jesus. The event is free.

Lenten program

Rachel Benda will speak on “Building the Culture of Life with Mercy” at an interfaith Lenten gathering at 7 p.m. Thursday at Salem Community Center, 1098 N. Ellsworth Ave. St. Paul Church is sponsoring the program focusing on focus on forgiveness and healing. Benda is director of Bethesda the House of Mercy in Cleveland.

Good Friday

YMCA of Youngstown will host its annual Good Friday breakfast and service April 6 at the Central Y, corner of Commerce and Champion streets. Guest speaker, Pastor Gary Koerth of Tabernacle Evangelical Presbyterian Church, will lead the service in the gym. A breakfast buffet prepared by Jorgine’s Deli will be served at 7:15 a.m. with the program at 8. The event will conclude at 8:45. Tickets are $10; reservations for tables of eight are $75. The Rev. Lowell T. Williams, pastor of Zion Hill Baptist Church, 220 Jefferson St., will celebrate his 17th anniversary during a program at 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Guest speaker will be Dr. Samuel W. Williams, pastor of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Pittsburgh. The theme is “A Labourer Worthy of His Reward” from 1Timothy 5:17-18.

St. Mark Gospel

“The Gospel According to St. Mark, a dramatic recitation by Dr. Allan Mosher, will be featured in the Palm Sunday service at 10 a.m. April 1 at Church Hill United Methodist Church, 189 Churchill-Hubbrd Road. The presentation will focus on the book of Mark, Chapters 11-15, which deal with Palm Sunday and the events leading up to the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ. Dr. Mosher is a professor of voice at YSU’s Dana School of Music.

Schaff lectures

Dr. Gary Dorrien, Reinhold Niebuhr professor of social ethics at Union Theological Seminary and professor of religion at Columbia University, is the featured speaker at the David S. Schaff lectures next week at First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave. He will speak on “Inventing Social Christianity: The World as the Subject of Redemption” at 4 p.m. for clergy and lay leaders. Passover dinner

Western Reserve Community Church, 8590 Hitchcock Road, will host a Passover Seder dinner at 6 p.m. April 14. The first dinner and teaching will feature Messianic Rabbi Benjamin Rosen. The Seder tray includes betzh, roasted egg representing the offering; zeroa, roasted bone for the paschal lamb; maror, bitter herb of horseradish sauce; haroset, apple, honey, nuts and cinnamon; karpas, green vegetable, parsley. Name change

Bishop George V. Murry of the Diocese of Youngstown has accepted a request from parishioners and the pastor for a parish name change. Immaculate Conception-Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish has changed its name to St. Angela Merici Parish, effective by canonical decree dated March 6. The parish is located at 400 Lincoln Park Drive. St. Angela Merici founded the Ursuline Sisters in 1535. The Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown served at both Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Conception schools. Because of her sense of hospitality and resilience in the living the Gospel, the parish chose to honor her and the Ursuline Sisters by renaming the parish in this manner. The parish is the merger of Immaculate Conception and Sacred Heart of Jesus churches.

Living Bread Radio has launched 89.5 FM, WILB, a Catholic talk format in the Youngstown area. Nationally syndicated programs include the Son Rise Morning Show, Catholic Connection, Women of Grace, Open Line, Kresta in the Afternoon and Catholic Answers. Living Bread Radio produces a number of local programs including Truth Matters, Morning Prayer, Liturgy of the Word, Blessed 2 Play and The Bread of Life Reflections. Life Line is a show produced in house, with host Melinda Knight, director of the Office of Pro-Life, Marriage and Family in Diocese of Youngstown, that tackles issues of life from conception to natural death. Sunday Mass from St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Massillon is aired live at 9:30 a.m.

St. John’s Episcopal Church, 226 W. State St., will present the final Lenten meditation at noon Tuesday with a meditation led by the Rev. Adam Trambley followed by the Youngstown Fine Arts Brass Quartet. A free-will offering will be taken. A light lunch will be served.
