Streetscape plans big June 2 beautification effort
YOUNGSTOWN
Organizers of the city’s Streetscape expect about 500 people to participate in the June 2 beautification effort.
The city’s 15th annual Streetscape planting day’s fundraising drive kicked off today.
The organization usually raises about $50,000 a year to purchase flowers, shrubs, mulch and planting and cleaning equipment, said Sharon Letson, executive director of Youngstown CityScape, which oversees the program.
The program focuses on downtown, but is also active at Wick Park, the gateways into downtown and relies on citizen groups to beautify the neighborhoods, Letson said.
