Police and the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office are investigating the apparent death of a woman by overdose in the bathroom of a fast-food restaurant near Youngstown State University campus.

Youngstown and YSU police were called to the Taco Bell restaurant on Fifth Avenue about 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Employees called police after discovering an unresponsive female in the bathroom.

Police said the woman died from an apparent drug overdose. Authorities did not give the woman’s age or name.

Guitarist, friends evade robbery

YOUNGSTOWN

City police are investigating the attempted armed robbery of a South Side man as he sat on his East Dewey Avenue porch playing the guitar Wednesday afternoon.

According to police reports, the 38-year-old man was sitting on the porch with four friends about 3:45 p.m. playing the guitar when two men, one carrying a gun, approached the porch from the side demanding money. The victims repeatedly told the would-be robbers they had nothing to give.

One of the men reportedly told the other to shoot the victims, but both men ran off instead.
