New four-way stop in Poland is called a home run for all

POLAND

It’s been years in the making and beginning Monday, the intersection of New Castle Road and Hubbard Road in Poland Township will be converted from a two-way stop to a four-way stop.

Until Monday, only South Hubbard Road had stop signs.

Residents have been complaining about the intersection of the two Mahoning County roads for years, according to Vindicator records.

In March 2001, a group of residents who live near the intersection, which is just north of Lowellville, asked county commissioners to create a four-way stop. One resident estimated there was an accident about once a week there “with vehicles often veering into yards,” according to a previous article.

The added stop signs are being used “to correct a safety deficiency at the intersection” because stopped traffic does not have a good view of westbound traffic, according to the Mahoning County Engineer’s Office.

Trustee Eric Ungaro said he’s been told by many residents that “it’s a bad intersection” and that the decision by the county is a “home run for everyone.”
