Austintown youth compete at state event

Austintown youth wrestlers Zameer Murad and Brock Kimble competed at the OAC Grade School State Wrestling Championships last weekend at the Covelli Centre in downtown Youngstown.

The duo had qualified for the state tournament after success at the Steubenville district meet.

Murad was second at districts, while Kimble was fourth.

The Grade School state event included youth wrestlers in grades six and under.

Awards went to the top eight wrestlers in each of 41 weight classes. The two-day event featured 10 mats of action.

Murad competed in the 80-pound bracket in the 9-10 division and had a 2-2 record. Kimble was 2-2 at 140 pounds in the 11-12 division.

“I am very proud of these two,” said coach Greg Faunda. “They work hard and this tournament is great experience. Plus, they will both have the chance to get back here and possibly place next year.”
