Weight program for families

NEW CASTLE, Pa.

The Jameson Hospital Community Education Department and The Highmark Foundation are offering KidShape Æ, a nationally recognized family-based weight-management program designed with hands-on activities for children ages 6 to 13 and their parents.

Activities promote healthy behavior changes such as increasing activity and choosing more nutritious snacks, drinks and meals. There is no fee for participants.

This nine-session family-based program series begins today from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Jameson Hospital South Campus Conference Center, 1000 South Mercer Street, New Castle. To register, call 724-656-4094.

Easter Seals walk

BOARDMAN

Easter Seals’ Make the First Five Count Walk is April 14 at Boardman Park. Registration is free beginning at 9 a.m. at the Elton Beard Cabin. The walk begins at 9:30 a.m. led by Lily and Cameron, Easter Seals 2012 child representatives.

Walkers who raise $25 or more will receive an official walk T-shirt. The walks are 1, 3 and 5 miles, or participants can run or just stroll around the park. Pets are welcome.

Activities include pony rides, face painting and crafts, and appearances by Youngstown State University’s Pete and Penny and the Phantom Fireworks mascot.

The purpose of the Easter Seals Make the First Five Count Walk’s is to raise awareness in our community on how the first five years of life are crucial to every young child’s development.

Free Easter meal

WARREN

The Warren Family Mission, 361 Elm Road N.E., will serve its free Easter meal April 6 from noon to 5 p.m.

Donations needed include hams, assorted pies, rolls and butter, Stove Top stuffing, canned pineapple, pork gravy, potatoes, assorted cheeses, filled Easter baskets and candy.

The items can be dropped of at either of the Warren Family Mission locations, 361 Elm Road, Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Sundays from noon to 9 p.m.; or at 2671 Youngstown Road S.E. Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For information, call 330-394-5437.

The National Safety Council, Northern Ohio Chapter, 25 E. Boardman St., Suite 343, is offering several; safety courses. To register, call 330-747-8657, ext. 10.

The courses are:

Basic Life Support: Healthcare and Professional Rescuers, April 4, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., initial fee, $50, refresher fee, $32.

Defensive Driving Course, DDC-4: April 12, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., fee, $30, register by March 29.

Relaxation program

New Castle, PA.

The Jameson Hospital Community Education Department and The Highmark Foundation are offering Discover Relaxation Within, a lifestyle improvement program focused to lead participants to manage everyday stress through practical relaxation techniques and innovative stress-management strategies.

The four-week, group-based program series meets Tuesdays beginning March 27 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Jameson Hospital South Campus Conference Center, 1000 South Mercer St., New Castle. There is no fee for Highmark members to participate and a nominal fee for nonmembers. To register call 724-656-4270.
