History of AOH will be program topic

YOUNGSTOWN

The Ethnic Heritage Society will sponsor a presentation on the local history of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, an Irish fraternal organization, at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Church, 1420 Oak Hill.

Danny O’Connell, national director of the AOH, will discuss the organization’s mission and history, with an emphasis on its local activities. Youngstown’s first St. Patrick’s Day parade was organized by a local chapter of the group in 1876, and the organization remains committed to the promotion of Irish culture.

O’Connell will be joined by AOH historian Richard Quinn, who has received numerous awards and recognition for his research.

The event is free of charge and open to the public, and refreshments will be provided. The presentation will be followed by the group’s monthly business meeting.
