Judge: Sea lion killing to save salmon can resume

A federal judge has allowed the killing of California sea lions to resume to protect endangered salmon bottled up at Bonneville Dam on the Columbia River.

The Humane Society of the United States said today its latest request to stop the killing was turned down by a federal judge in Washington, D.C., while a lawsuit challenging the program goes forward.

Sharon Young of the Humane Society says the judge did limit the killing to 30 animals a year instead of the 92 authorized by federal authorities.
