Trumbull to pay Niles $76,417 for 911 backup

Staff report

WARREN

Trumbull County commissioners are expected today to approve the repayment of $76,417 to the city of Niles for the cost of equipment and software for the city’s 911 dispatching system.

The payment is being made according to the Trumbull County 911 plan, which calls for Niles to be a backup to the county 911 system and city of Warren 911 system.

Warren’s system will be the primary backup to the county system. Niles will take over if both the county and Warren systems become inoperable, said Ernie Cook, county 911 director.

Niles installed its new system around 2010 or 2011. It will be fully functional as a backup to the county and Warren systems as soon as the entire 911 system becomes Phase 2 compliant and is running, Cook said. That is expected later this year.

Being Phase 2 compliant means wireless 911 calls can be tracked to within yards rather than miles using latitude and longitude coordinates that will be provided.
