Maple Syrup Fest at Boardman Park

BOARDMAN

Boardman Township Park’s 35th Annual Maple Syrup Festival will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and again the following weekend, March 31 and April 1. Admission is free.

The park staff will demonstrate how maple trees are tapped, sap is collected, and how the sap is boiled to make syrup. Real maple syrup will be sold. Civil War re-enactors will be on hand, as will the Western Reserve Woodcarvers, Boardman Historical Society and the Mahoning Valley Watercolor Society. Boy Scout Troop 60 will demonstrate old-fashioned camping skills and there will be hayrides through the trails.

The Boardman Rotary Club will have its annual pancake breakfast at the Lariccia Family Community Center during the festival. The cost is $6 (free for children 6 and under). Swizzle Stick Day at chocolate factory

FARRELL, PA.

Daffin’s Candies, the world’s largest candy store, will have its annual Open House and Swizzle Stick Day from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at Daffin’s Candy Factory, 7 Spearman Ave.

Free tours of the chocolate factory will be given and free samples of Daffin’s chocolate, as well as free bunny ears, will be given away. Giant, solid-chocolate rabbits, cartoon characters and the Easter bunny will be on display. For information, call 724-342-2892 or go to daffins.com.

Event will benefit Rookery Radio

YOUNGSTOWN

Rookery Radio, Youngs-town State University’s student-run Internet radio station, will host Rookery Radio Benefit Bash at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Lemon Grove Cafe, 122 Federal St.

Local bands Tweek Tronic, Neon Avenue and Words First will perform followed by Michigan-based Jake Simmons and the Little Ghosts. Comedians and Rookery Radio DJs Jesse Huber, Jaye Mills and Eric Lewis will entertain between sets.

The event will include a silent auction, and new Rookery Radio T-shirts will be sold. Admission is $5.
