Jacubec named all-state 1st team

Struthers High senior Jake Jacubec, who led the Wildcats to the All-American Conference Red Tier and Division II district championships, has been named first team All-Ohio by The Associated Press.

Jacubec, the lone returning starter for Struthers, averaged 26.2 points and 4.5 assists per game as the Wildcats compiled a 16-4 record and won the district championship for the second consecutive season.

He shot 61 percent from the field, making 119 of 164 shots, including 44 percent on 3-pointers (61 of 140).

He also made 80 percent of his free throws (116 of 145).

He was joined on the all-state team by Poland’s Colin Reardon and East Liverpool’s Marky Thompkins, who were selected Special Mention.

Reardon, a senior, led Poland to a 15-5 record and berth in the district title game. He averaged 21.9 points and 9.1 rebounds per game, shooting 39.6 percent on 3-pointers (57 of 144) and 75.8 percent at the free-throw line (91 of 120).

Thompkins was a senior member of the Potters’ team that went 17-3. He averaged 15.8 points per game.

Also in Div. II, Doug Caputo of Cardinal Mooney, Zach McDivitt of Lakeview and Dylan Schmidt of Struthers were named Honorable Mention.

Caputo, a junior, led Mooney in scoring (16.0), rebounds (9.5) and blocked shots (4.5) per game.

McDivitt, a senior, averaged 11.9 and 3.0 assists per game for Lakeview.

Schmidt, a senior, averaged 15.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per game for Struthers.

Three area players were selected to the All-Ohio team in Div. I.

Warren Harding senior Jesse Hardin, who led the Raiders to a 17-3 record and a berth in the regional championship game, was named Special Mention. Hardin averaged 12 points and 3.1 assists per game for the Raiders, and shot 79 percent (50 of 63) at the foul line.

Seniors Mike Hornbuckle of East and Will Mahone of Austintown Fitch were selected Honorable Mention. Hornbuckle averaged 13 points and 3.5 assists per game for the Panthers, while Mahone averaged 19 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game for the Falcons.
