Jennings Center seeks strange items for program

Staff report

Slippery Rock, Pa.

Jennings Environmental Education Center wants your weird wildlife taxidermy, peculiar plant specimens and other natural collectibles.

Visitors can bring them to the center, 2951 Prospect Road, at 2 p.m. April 1 for a new program — “Nature’s Hidden Treasures.”

Participants can bring their odd items to Jennings, where center naturalists will be on hand to attempt to identify or otherwise explain these curious curios from 2 to 3 p.m.

From 3 to 4 p.m., staff will feature the strangest, coolest and most-fascinating specimens, along with some of Jennings’ own oddities, in a special presentation.

There is no fee to attend, but if you have something to be identified, register by calling the center at 724-794-6011 no later than Friday.

Many people have come across unexplained natural phenomena or items, whether in the outdoors or in their attics.

From a mummified fox found in a field, to strange squiggly patterns scrawled into tree bark, to taxidermy specimens of birds you’ve never seen, all of these finds showcase the diversity of the world we live in and offer mysteries to be solved, center staff said in a press release.
