The Krakowiaki Polish Folk Circle will sponsor Swieconka [SHVEN-sonka], a free Polish Easter traditions workshop and celebration from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at the former Our Lady of Hungary Church hall, 545 N. Belle Vista Ave. Proceeds will defray the cost of the group’s costumes.

Lawrence Kozlowski, noted folklorist and author, will conduct hands-on workshops affording participants the chance to create traditional pisanki (decorative eggs) and palmowa tkania (palm weavings). Workshop sessions begin at 12:30 and are repeated at 3 p.m. Open session time throughout the day will allow crafters to work independently or with guidance from Kozlowski.

Members of the Folk Circle will host a 30-minute participatory song and dance demonstration for children with easy steps and holiday information at 2 p.m., and Kozlowski will present a kid-friendly craft workshop just for them at 2:30 p.m.

Vendors will have Polish foods and items available for purchase including baked goods, wooden eggs, blessing basket cloths and icons, and orders for authentic Easter foods such as kielbasa biala surowa (white sausage), zurek (white borscht) and fruit-filled pirogi will be taken; pickup will be April 5. Solid milk chocolate pirogi dumplings will be sold for $1.50 each.

The event includes drawings for gift baskets and a 50-50 raffle at 4 p.m.
