A.O.H. and L.O.A.H. will honor Irish Man, Woman of 2012

Ancient Order of Hibernians and Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians have selected the 2012 Irish Man and Woman of the Year, Sheriff Randall A. Wellington and Eileen M. Gilmartin.

The two will be honored at the A.O.H./L.A.O.H St. Patrick’s Day Luncheon today at noon at St. Patrick Church, after the 10:30 a.m. Mass.

Wellington, former Youngstown Police Chief , has been the Mahoning County sheriff for the past 12 years.

He is a graduate of Youngstown State University, F.B.I. National Academy, F.B.I. Law Enforcement Executive School, Secret Service Diplomat Protection School and The Lincoln Zonn Academy of Polygraph. He served with the U.S. Army in Korea.

Wellington serves on the board of directors of the Difference Makers and volunteers for the renovation of the Dorothy Day House on Belmont Avenue. He assists with the maintenance of the Ursuline Motherhouse on Shields Road, Canfield, and supports the Youngstown Gleaners Food Bank and Angels for Animals.

A member of St. Christine Church, Wellington has served on the parish finance committee. He is a 3rd-Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 274, named for Bishop James W. Malone.

A widower, Wellington was married to the former Delores Murphy.

Gilmartin, born in Youngstown, is a graduate of Ursuline High School and Ohio University.

After college she lived in Portland, Ore., and then San Antonio, where she managed restaurants and caf s for Sky Chefs at the San Antonio International Airport.

After her return to Youngstown, she began a 20-year career in radio as “Casey Malone.” She works in the television industry and is the host and executive producer of “The Casey Malone Show,” which airs Saturdays at noon on WFMJ and Sundays at 7 a.m. on WBCB.

Gilmartin is a member of L.A.O.H. and serves as director and master of ceremonies of the Mahoning Valley St. Patrick’s Day Parade. She served as grand marshal of the parade in 2001 and is a recipient of the Ockerman Award. She is a member of St. Christine Church and is married to Ken Turocy.
