Police assault
Youngstown
Police said a fight between a boyfriend and girlfriend at a South Side bar sent two officers and a suspect to the hospital Thursday evening. The male and female officers, whose names were not released, were on the scene at Michael O’Malley’s Pub, 3114 South Ave., after the bartender requested the removal of an unruly patron. The patron, who police said refused to give his name Thursday, punched the female officer, who fell and “smashed her head pretty good,” according to an officer at the police station. The other officer apprehended the patron, who tried to hide drugs he had by quickly swallowing them, police said. The officers and the patron were taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center. Witnesses at the bar declined to comment to The Vindicator.
