Pa. game agency puts 3 orphaned bear cubs in dens

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Three orphaned black bear cubs are safely inside new dens thanks to Pennsylvania game officials, who rushed to find them homes after they were discovered along a road near the New York state line.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission described the frantic search for new homes Friday, when the third cub was placed in a Pike County den along with a sow and her two natural cubs.

Motorists in Troy, Pa., had alerted officials to the three cubs on Tuesday, and the next day the two female cubs were taken to Delaware State Forest.

Wildlife officials tranquilized the sows, and placed the cubs alongside their new step-siblings.

Authorities suspect someone may have illegally moved the cubs, because there was no evidence of their mother where they were recovered.
