Grand jury refuses to indict Warren man in slaying

A Trumbull County grand jury has refused to indict Daron Warfield Jr., 23, of Lane Drive Southwest in the Jan. 12 killing of Domin’Que Hugley, 21, of Saratoga Avenue Southwest.

Police issued a warrant for Warfield’s arrest the day of the killing, and Warfield turned himself in Jan. 31.

Police said Warfield killed Hugley during a robbery on Third Street Southwest at 7:48 p.m. Police were called to a gas station on West Market Street by Tyrone L. Dorsey Jr., 21, of Warren, who said he had been shot during the robbery but had escaped.

He alerted police to look for Hugley, who police found dead at Third Street and Highland Avenue.

Morris Hill, a retired Warren police officer, said Hugley lived across the street from him since he was a small boy and was a “fine young man” and “an athlete in the city of Warren.”

The same grand jury indicted Carlos G. Cowger Jr., 36, of Braceville Robinson Road, Braceville Township, on charges of illegal drug manufacture and illegal assembly or possession of drug-manufacturing chemicals.

Cowger was charged with the crimes Feb. 3 after police found materials in his garage to make methamphetamine.

He had just been indicted Jan. 24 in connection with his arrest in November at that same location for also reportedly manufacturing methamphetamine.
