POLICE CALLS
A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard and Liberty:
GIRARD
March 7
Breaking and entering: Someone entered a building in the 1100 block of South State Street through a window and damaged two air- conditioning units, wiring and a vending machine.
Criminal damaging: A van in the 300 block of East Liberty Street was found with a threatening message that had been spray-painted on its driver’s side.
Theft: A North Avenue man discovered that $40 missing from his wallet.
March 8
Menacing: Two students at Girard High School, 1244 Shannon Road, reported receiving continual threats goading them into a fight.
Menacing: A woman told officers her son had been threatened numerous times at Girard High.
Burglary: To a home in the 200 block of East Howard Street, from which a .22-caliber pistol and several other items were missing.
Theft: An Xbox 360 system, duel DVD players and a DVD were removed from a car in the 700 block of Trumbull Avenue, for a $225 loss.
Theft: A $120 car stereo, money and several compact discs were stolen from a vehicle in the 200 block of Louis Circle.
Theft: Someone ransacked a car in the 300 block of Ohio Avenue before taking various personal papers, a bottle of cough syrup and $5.
March 9
Menacing: An Iowa Avenue man told police a driver followed the accuser to his home, then threatened to blow up the residence.
Menacing: A Ward Avenue woman said a man kicked and banged on her door before making a threatening statement.
Criminal damaging: Someone used a rock to do $130 in damage to a rear window of a home in the 400 block of Idaho Avenue.
Domestic violence: Police charged 26-year-old Jonathan Z. Carson, 401 Mosier Road, Girard, with the crime after his mother alleged Carson had struck her face during a tirade, then jumped on her vehicle as she tried to leave.
March 11
Theft: An Illinois Avenue woman reported various medications missing from her residence.
March 12
Auto theft: A 1996 Pontiac Grand Am was stolen in the 100 block of East Wilson Avenue.
LIBERTY
March 7
Arrest: Police in the 2700 block of Belmont Avenue picked up 24-year-old Phillip R. Latimer of Rush Boulevard, Youngstown, who was wanted on a township warrant.
Arrest: Candida Arroyo, 37, of 10 Roberts St., Vienna, was arrested in the 4400 block of Belmont Avenue on a charge of failure to appear in court.
Arrest: Youngstown police handed 62-year-old Jerome S. Harris to township authorities. Harris, of 418 Emerson Ave., Youngstown, was wanted on an outstanding warrant.
Arrest: Nicole L. Degenaro, 29, of 2700 Taft Ave., Youngstown, was taken into custody. She was wanted on an outstanding township warrant.
Theft: Officials with Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, detained 43-year-old Derrick G. McIntosh, 962 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Youngstown, who police arrested on a warrant from Girard Municipal Court accusing him of failing to appear to face a theft count.
Arrest: Authorities responded to a disturbance on West Montrose Street, where they charged 42-year-old Kathryn F. Ratliff, 1329 W. Montrose, with criminal trespassing, disorderly conduct while intoxicated and obstructing official business. An intoxicated Ratliff caused the disturbance, then became combative with police after her arrest, a report showed.
March 8
Theft/drugs: Anthony R. Damico, 29, of 1223 North Road, Niles, faced charges of theft and drug possession after a $60 computer game was stolen from Walmart. Damico also had a bundle of pills in a sandwich bag, a report showed.
March 9
Arrest: Officers responded to a vehicle on Logan Way that had struck a utility pole, then cited 69-year-old Wilbert Johnson, 2220 E. Arms Drive, Hubbard, on charges of operating a vehicle impaired and failure to control a motor vehicle.
Drugs: A traffic stop in the 4200 block of Belmont Avenue resulted in the arrest of 23-year-old Margaret M. McElroy, 113 W. Second St., Girard, on a felony heroin-possession charge. McElroy, who also was charged with having no operator’s license, had a bag containing a brown powder that tested positive for the drug, police said.
Arrest: While responding to a theft at Walmart, officers took into custody 41-year-old Jonathan T. Wilson, 591 Obermyer Road, Brookfield, on a probation-violation charge.
Arrest: Robert S. Howard, 46, of 984 Salt Springs Road, Mineral Ridge, was arrested in the 3000 block of Green Acres Drive. He was wanted on a warrant from Youngstown.
Arrest: Police at the Mahoning County jail took custody of 49-year-old Kenneth L. Staples, 207 Curry Place, Youngstown, who was accused by the Girard Municipal Court of failing to appear.
March 10
Theft: A $100 cellphone was stolen from an employee of an East Liberty Street motel.
Arrest: Tina Jarrette, 46, of 919 Main Ave., Campbell, was booked at the county jail on an outstanding township warrant.
Theft: A $1,000 laptop computer was taken from a residence in the 1900 block of Oriel-Rogers Road.
Aggravated menacing: A Church Hill Road woman told police her estranged husband claimed to be en route to her residence with three firearms.
Arrest: New Middletown police handed to Liberty authorities 50-year-old Rose A. Marshall, 9 Slate Ave., New Castle, Pa. She was wanted on a township warrant.
Drugs: Police on Biscayne Drive received a tip regarding a wanted person before conducting a traffic stop on Colonial Drive, where they took 19-year-old Khamray J. Bonner into custody on charges of tampering with evidence, trafficking in marijuana and possession of dangerous drugs. Bonner, of 2930 Biscayne Ave., Youngstown, had several bags of suspected marijuana and loose pills, a report showed.
Arrest: While answering a theft call at Walmart, police charged a 15-year-old Girard male with being an unruly juvenile and criminal trespassing after saying the teen had threatened store personnel and refused to leave.
March 11
Breaking and entering: The front door to a home in the 1100 block of Mansell Drive was forced open. Stolen was about $300 worth of copper piping.
Arson: Liberty police and firefighters investigated a report of a vehicle and a utility trailer on fire on property in the 5000 block of West Liberty Street. The initial police report estimated the damage at $1,000.
Theft: While investigating a suspicious person in the 3000 block of North Gate Road, police charged James R. Larosa, 32, of 115 E. Montrose St., Liberty, with theft and possession of criminal tools. Larosa was accused of using a pair of pliers to remove scrap copper piping from an apartment building in the 3000 block of Green Acres Drive that recently burned to the ground.
March 12
Arrest: Warren police handed 41-year-old Paul E. Kloh to township authorities. Kloh, of 540 Fenton St., Niles, was wanted on a warrant.
Arrest: Warren police apprehended Jermaine L. Mobley, 3105 Williamsburgh Ave., Warren, who was wanted by Liberty police on a warrant.
