WV man to trial in deputy’s pursuit death in Pa.
WAYNESBURG, Pa. (AP) — A southwestern Pennsylvania district judge has ordered a West Virginia man to stand trial for a police pursuit that ended when the man crashed into the car of a deputy during a pursuit into Pennsylvania.
Thirty-five-year-old Jerod Green, of Morgantown, W.Va. was held for trial in Greene County after a preliminary hearing Monday on charges including murder of a law enforcement officer, homicide by vehicle while driving drunk and criminal homicide.
The charges stem from the death of 41-year-old Sgt. Michael May, a deputy with the Monongalia County, W. Va. sheriff’s office.
Authorities were chasing Green after a hit-and-run accident when he crashed into May’s patrol car, which was stopped in the median of Interstate 79 in Pennsylvania on Feb. 18.
Green’s attorney says he doesn’t believe his client meant to kill May.
