New Middletown officials to finanlize pacts in April with police, village workers
NEW MIDDLETOWN — New contracts with police and other village employees have been approved but won’t be finalized until April when council makes a consistent rule on payment for employees who decline village medical insurance.
Village officials told council Monday that, for example, different police officers receive different amounts of monthly stipends if they or their spouses do not use the village health-insurance policy.
The contract on all other issues has been approved for 2012.
The new three-year contract for full-time police officers provides no pay increase the first year, one percent the second year and two percent the third year.
The police chief currently makes $50,419 annually, the sergeant $38,210, and the two full-time patrolmen $29,702 and $29,120, respectively, because of different lengths of service. Police life-insurance policies will increase from $20,000 to $30,000.
All other village employees will receive a one-year contract. Part-time police officers will receive a two percent wage increase and a $20,000 life-insurance policy. Those with the Patrolman 1 rank will increase from $12.35 to $12.60 hourly. Patrolman II will increase from $11.79 to $12.03, and Patrolman III will increase from $11.26 to $11.49.
