Memorial fund plans annual barbecue event

The 23rd Annual Strimbu Memorial Barbecue has been planned for May 2 at Yankee Lake Ballroom in Brookfield as part of a fundraising effort for the Strimbu Memorial Fund.

The event draws a sellout crowd of 1,600 annually and is reminiscent of a full-scale Texas barbecue. Doors will open at 5 p.m.

The fund awards $1,000 leadership scholarships to qualified high school seniors in 11 local school districts, and an additional $10,000 to the overall leader.

The fund also contributes to economic development agencies and projects, and selected humanitarian projects and programs.

The event will feature a variety of appetizers and food served straight from the spit.

There will be silent and live auctions, and entertainment by Pipe Dreams.
