The State Controlling Board approved $136,200 in state funding for spillway improvements at the Zepernick State Wildlife Area.

The project will replace the current main spillway and widen the emergency spillway, according to state Rep. Craig Newbold of Columbiana, R-1st. The improvements will improve the condition of the metal pipe spillway structure and bring a dam in the wildlife area into compliance with safety regulations, he said.

Also included in the project are the installation of a new lake drain valve, improvements to the principal spillway outlet basin and associated site restoration. All work is scheduled for completion by July.
