Lawrence United Way exceeds goal

NEW CASTLE, PA.
The United Way of Lawrence County raised $425,000 during its 2011 campaign, exceeding its goal of $400,000, said Gayle Young, executive director.
She credited Wayne Alexander, president of the UW board of directors, with rallying the community through his “Yes We Can” campaign.
Businesses recognized for their outstanding support included Liberty Mutual, Columbia Gas, Pennsylvania American Water, Jameson Health System, AT&T and Mohawk Area School District.
The largest employee campaigns took place at SECA, Penn Power, UPS and Silgan/IPEC. Ellwood Quality Steels made the largest corporate donation followed by FirstEnergy Foundation and Ellwood Group, Inc.
Board officers elected for 2012 are: Alexander, president; Sam B. Biasucci, vice president; Marilyn Cookson, treasurer; and Sara Dudash, secretary. Jerry Prestopine of FirstMerit Bank was introduced as the campaign chairman for 2012.
The Lawrence County United Way helps fund services provided by 17 nonprofit agencies in the county.
