The Vindicator will run a listing of area services that are open to the public in observance of Palm Sunday, April 1; Holy Thursday, April 5; Good Friday, April 6; Holy Saturday, April 7; and Easter, April 8. The deadline to submit information is 5 p.m. March 28. Publication will be March 31. Information should include the denomination and name of the church, address, city or suburb, the day, time, type of service, your name and a phone number for verification. Lenten retreat

Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown are sponsoring a 24-hour Lenten retreat, “Come Away and Rest Awhile,” from noon March 24 through noon March 25 for women age 20-30. Discussions will center on prayer, spirituality and Christian service. Mass, faith sharing, a labyrinth walk and use of the indoor pool will be included.

Society of St. John Chrysostom, Youngstown-Warren Chapter, will host Bishop John Bura of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of St. Josaphat — Parma at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Church, 526 W. Rayen Ave. He will speak on a topic related to the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.

The program is free and open to all. The society is an ecumenical organization of Catholic and Orthodox clergy and laity.

Novena at shrine

National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon, 2759 N. Lipkey Road, will conduct its annual St. Joseph novena at 7 p.m. Sunday through March 19 starting with Divine Liturgy the first day.

At the closing, there will be liturgy and procession followed by a blessing of the St. Joseph’s table in Cedars Hall. All are welcome to attend. Covered dishes are appreciated. For information, call 330-538-3351.

Mosher as St. Mark

The Gospel according to St. Mark, a dramatic recitation by Dr. Allan Mosher, with special music by Jennifer Jones Mosher, will be presented in two parts at 3 p.m. March 18 and 25 at Cornersburg Baptist Church, 3898 Tippecanoe Road.

Mosher uses the King James Version dating from 1611. He is a professor of voice at Youngstown State University’s Dana School of Music.

Prayer breakfast

The Women of Purpose of Union Baptist Church will host the annual prayer breakfast at 9 a.m. March 24 at The Georgetown, 5945 South Ave.

Minister Sonja Williams of Calvary Ministries International and the wife of former Mayor Jay Williams will be guest speaker. The theme will be “We Serve: The God Who Never Fails in 2012.”

Christian songfest

Youngstown Cursillo Center will sponsor a St. Patrick’s Day songfest, a Christian music concert and fellowship event, at 6 p.m. next Saturday at St. Luke Church parish hall, 5235 South Ave.

Power of Praise and Morning Star will lead in prayer and song. Homemade corned beef and cabbage will be served; guests are encouraged to bring a dish to share. This is a family- friendly, alcohol-free event.

Celtic Mass celebration

St. Patrick Church, 1420 Oak Hill Ave., will celebrate a Celtic/Gaelic Mass at 10 a.m. Sunday featuring Colleen McNally Harris, a well-know Celtic singer. Songs from Ireland, Scotland and Wales will be included. She also will sing one song in the original Gaelic language.

Switching pulpits at Lent

Three priests in the Diocese of Youngstown are exchanging pulpits during Lent. On the first Sunday of Lent on Feb. 26, the three pastors, the Revs. Joe Fata of St. Luke Church in Boardman, Kevin Peters of Immaculate Conception-Sacred Heart Parish and Edward Noga of St. Patrick Church preached in their own parishes to introduce the theme “Church: Beyond Self, Beyond History, Beyond Boundaries” with an emphasis on the first concept, beyond self.

The theme for the second Sunday of Lent was “Church: Beyond History.” Father Noga was at St. Luke, Father Fata at Immaculate Conception-Sacred Heart of Jesus, and Father Peters was at St. Patrick.

Today and Sunday, the three pastors will exchange pulpits once again and develop the concept “Church: Beyond Boundaries.”

The priests are members of ACTION, Alliance for Congregational Transformation Influencing Our Neighborhoods.

Youngstown Diocesan Council of Catholic Women will present “The Magic of Spring and Spirituality” April 12 at the Oblate Sisters Villa Maria Teresa Convent, 50 Warner Road. Mass will be at 10 a.m. followed by a tour on “The Mission and History of the Oblate Order” then lunch and prayer in the garden. Cost is $25 a person and $200 a table. Seating is limited.
