Goodwill, Girl Scouts promote good turns
YOUNGSTOWN
Goodwill and the Girl Scouts are teaming up for the Good Turn Day donation drive March 24.
Participating in the event will be Goodwill donation centers in Austintown, Boardman, Calcutta, Liberty, Salem and Warren, along with Girl Scouts in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties.
The event is usually in the fall, but this special spring version of Good Turn Day will commemorate the Girl Scouts’ 100th Anniversary. Girl Scouts earn a patch by collecting resalable clothing and household items from friends, family and neighbors and then donating the items to donation centers on Good Turn Day.
Girl Scouts are asked to donate three bags to earn a patch. The Girl Scout’s parent or her troop leader must register ahead by calling Goodwill’s office at 330-759-7921, ext 1207, with the troop number, donation center location and number of girls participating or email the information to e.parker@goodwillyoungstown.org.

Red Cross seeks restaurant partners
WARREN
The American Red Cross of the Mahoning Valley is looking to partner with area restaurants during March, Red Cross Awareness Month, to raise funds for disaster relief.
The Dine and Donate campaign is a monthlong partnership with restaurants, where proceeds from certain dishes or drinks will go directly to the disaster relief fund.
The local Red Cross chapter relies on the nearly 200 volunteers to carry out its mission. Every year Mahoning Valley Red Cross helps hundreds of victims of fires and floods. Most recently, it opened a reception center to accommodate area residents displaced by the fuel tanker accident on I-680.
Margherita’s Grille in Girard, Mikees II in Vienna and Belleria Pizzeria have already signed up to participate.
Those who want to take part in the campaign should call Karen Conklin at 330-392-2551 ext. 114.
