Good cheer was stacking up at IHOP Restaurant in Boardman on Feb. 28, as the location participated in “National Pancake Day” to benefit Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley.
The nationwide program, now in its seventh year, raises awareness and funds for the Children’s Miracle Network by offering a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes and asking guests to donate the cost of the flapjacks to their local Children’s Miracle Network hospital. Although more than 1,500 IHOP restaurants participate, each celebration has a local focus.
“Any donations from the Boardman and Niles IHOP locations during National Pancake Day will stay right here in the Valley and benefit Akron Children’s Hospital. We hope that we’ll be able to raise $5,000 to benefit local children this year,” said Nicole Carnivale, the coordinator of special projects for Akron Children’s.
Boardman IHOP general manager Tom Shipley was very busy during the pancake celebration, but spared a few moments to share his appreciation of the national Children’s Miracle Network and Akron Children’s Hospital.
“On the corporate IHOP level and in our team here at the restaurant, the work we do for National Pancake Day is a wonderful cause. It’s a point of pride that we can help in the quest to give every child the medical attention they need, regardless of cost. It’s a great project for the community and the children that live here, and we’re glad to be involved,” Shipley said.
