Boardman presents 12th annual Jazz Fest

The 12th annual Boardman High School Jazz Fest will take place April 2 at 7 p.m. in the Boardman Performing Arts Center and will feature BHS Jazz Ensembles 1, 2 and 3 and special guest drummer Bernie Dresel.

The evening begins with a performance by BHS Jazz Ensemble 3, a group formed due to the increased interest in the jazz program at Boardman.

BHS Jazz Ensemble 2 will take the stage with its unique blend of jazz and blues. Jazz 2 is the group that entertains crowds at some of Boardman’s basketball games.

The headliner of the concert is the BHS Jazz Ensemble 1, which will continue its tradition of high-energy and high- quality performances.

World-famous drummer Bernie Dresel grew up in Sharon, Pa., and began drumming at an early age. He earned a degree from the Eastman School of Music and moved to Los Angeles to begin working on his now illustrious and distinguished career as one of the greatest drummer/percussionists in the world.

His most popular work is with the Grammy Award-winning Brian Setzer Orchestra and the Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band. He has also performed and recorded with some of the biggest names in the business including Ben Vereen, Ringo Starr, Maynard Ferguson, Chaka Khan, Doc Severinson, Philip Bailey, Dolly Parton, James Taylor, James Brown, Frank Sinatra, Little Richard and Gene Simmons.

General admission tickets for the April 2 BHS Jazz Fest are available for $9 each by calling 330-259-7150 or online at www.boardmanperformingartscenter.com. Senior citizens should call and ask for a discount.
