Police: Love triangle fueled death of 75-year-old Pa. man
BROWNSVILLE, Pa. (AP) — Police have charged a 35-year-old western Pennsylvania man in the fatal beating of a 75-year-old man, allegedly stemming from a love triangle involving the younger man’s 20-something girlfriend.
Jonathan Godines, of Brownsville, was originally charged with aggravated assault and lesser charges in the Nov. 15 beating of John Eicholtz. Fayette County authorities say Eicholtz, also of Brownsville, died Dec. 1, and police filed a new set of charges Wednesday, including criminal homicide, based on autopsy results that linked his fatal brain hemorrhage to the assault.
Godines’ attorney did not immediately return a call for comment today. Godines had previously told police the attack wasn’t spurred by jealousy, but because he claimed Eicholtz “flashed a gun” during a traffic dispute.
Police say much of the incident was captured on surveillance video from a nearby business.
