Hungarians-Americans to mark independence

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown-American Hungarian Club, 2219 Donald Ave., will be the site of a commemorative event of the 1848 War of Hungarian Independence.

The event will begin at 3 p.m. March 18. It will feature a look back into the history of Hungary during the 1800s and 1900s. Several local musicians will share traditional melodies, and several poems will be recited.

The annual event allows the Hungarian community to gather and remember past struggles and battles for political and religious freedoms for the homeland.

Refreshments will follow the program.
