Former judge to be released from jail

Maureen A. Cronin, a former Mahoning County Common Pleas Court judge, is scheduled to be released today from a federal prison facility in Greenville, Ill.

She was sent there in March 2010 to serve time for honest-services mail fraud.

Cronin admitted taking, and not reporting on a state disclosure form, an $18,000, no-interest cash loan from Flora Cafaro, part-owner of the Cafaro Co., while that company had cases pending in her courtroom.

Cronin resigned from her judgeship in 2007 and resigned from her law practice in 2010 shortly before she entered prison.
