Polish Happy Hour with Mexican flair
LIBERTY
Poland and Mexico don’t have much in common, at first glance.
But they do share several things, including lively accordion music and people who struggled for their freedom. Poles and Polish Jews even migrated to Mexico in the first half of the 20th century to escape war. Today, there are up to 15,000 descendants of those emigres still living in Mexico.
To further explore the ties between the two countries, Polish Youngstown will have a South of the Border Polish Happy Hour from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Fiesta Tapatia, 3632 Belmont Ave., Liberty. The event will feature a tequila tasting and talk with restaurant owner Juan Vasquez; imported beer, vodka and margarita specials; authentic Polish and Mexican food and Mexican-style polkas.
The public is welcome. For information, go to polish-youngstown.com or call Fiesta Tapatia at 330-759-3555.

Valley musicians at the Hard Rock
David G. Ward of Austintown finished second in the Hard Rock Rising music contest at the Cleveland location. Ward performed Friday before a panel of judges in the semifinal round. Although he is now eliminated from the contest, Ward plans to release a CD of his original music this spring.
Two Mahoning Valley bands entered the Hard Rock Rising competition in the Pittsburgh category: Love Turns Hate and Tara’s Fire. Love Turns Hate did not progress to the second round, but Tara’s Fire is still alive in the competition.
Hard Rock Rising competitions are taking place in 86 Hard Rock Cafes worldwide. The winning acts will be flown to London to perform in the Hard Rock Rising music festival.
