Pa. teen sentenced for bike-path assault

READING, Pa. (AP) — A 16-year-old Pennsylvania male is going to a juvenile treatment facility for the assault and robbery of a 65-year-old bicyclist who killed one of the teen’s friends and shot another in the neck.

Berks County Judge Scott Lash made the ruling at a hearing Tuesday in juvenile court after the boy admitted to conspiring to commit robbery.

Prosecutors said the bicyclist acted in self-defense when he shot and killed 16-year-old Julius Johnson and wounded another teen also scheduled for a hearing in juvenile court.

The bicyclist, who has not been identified, opened fire after one of the boys knocked the man off his bike and robbed him Jan. 25 on a popular riverfront biking path in Cumru Township.
