ELECTION NOTEBOOK Around the Mahoning Valley

Trumbull Co. delay

WARREN

The final election results for Trumbull County were delayed Tuesday night by a snafu that occurred at a polling location in Braceville Township.

The Trumbull County Board of Elections posted the results from 163 of the county’s 210 precincts at 10:01 p.m., giving most of the results.

But the final results were not available until 12:26 a.m. today, because workers from the elections board had to drive to Braceville Township from the board office in Warren to retrieve voting machines that had been left at the polling location by mistake.

The poll workers packed up most of their materials and drove them to the elections board but forgot to bring the voting machines, which contain the results, elections officials said.

Yard-sign disposal

YOUNGSTOWN

Now that the primary election is over, the Recycling Division of Mahoning County urges candidates and their supporters to recycle unwanted standard-sized political yard signs. The signs should be taken to the rear parking lot at the county’s South Side Annex, 2801 Market St., during daylight hours, Monday through Friday, and stacked neatly against the rear fence.

Poor turnout

YOUNGSTOWN

Election officials in the Mahoning Valley expected poor turnout for Tuesday’s primary. But even their low expectations weren’t reached.

In Mahoning County, turnout was 29.4 percent with 32 percent as the predicted amount. In Trumbull County, turnout was 24.54 percent with 30 percent to 35 percent predicted. In Columbiana County, 25.36 percent of registered voters cast ballots. The predicted amount there was 30 percent.
