Girard police probe shooting
Staff Report
Girard
Police are looking for the location of an alleged gambling party that ended with gunfire that sent one man to the hospital.
ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital called Girard police early Sunday to tell them a man arrived at the emergency room with a gunshot wound to the foot, according to a police report.
According to the report, the victim, an 18-year-old man from Warren, told doctors he was shot in Girard.
When Girard police officers arrived at the hospital, the victim was unable to tell them where the shooting occurred because he said he was not familiar with the area.
He told police he was playing craps when he heard up to five shots. The victim ran for the door and then realized one of the rounds had struck him in the foot.
He jumped into the backseat of a friend’s car and was driven to the hospital, the report said.
On Monday, Girard Police Chief Jeffrey Palmer said they are still investigating the location of the shooting and were not even sure if it happened in Girard.
The police report said the victim remembered passing a McDonald’s on U.S. Route 422 while driving south and five minutes later turned right.
Palmer said the department is in talks with several jurisdictions in an attempt to find out where the shooting occurred.
As Monday afternoon, the victim was no longer in the hospital, according to a spokesman for Trumbull Memorial.
