Hoyt seeks entries for its juried art exhibition

Staff report

NEW CASTLE, Pa.

Regional artists can compete for cash prizes and ribbons at the 39th Annual Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts 39th annual Regional Juried Art Exhibition, which will be April 17 to May 11.

All works of art must have been completed within the past three years and be framed and wired for display. Most media will be accepted within size and weight limitations except video and installation work due to the historic nature of the museum.

The Hoyt Regional is open to artists 21 or older living within a 100-mile radius of New Castle. Entry is limited to original works of art, which must be hand-delivered to the Hoyt, 124 E. Leasure Ave., on registration day, March 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Entry fee is $20 for two works ($15 for Hoyt members), and $5 for each additional work. For a prospectus, call 724-652-2882 or go to hoytartcenter.org.

The juror this year is John Vanco, director and curator of the Erie Art Museum.

Vanco has organized more than 400 exhibitions since 1968. He is a frequent lecturer, essayist and exhibition juror and has served on advisory panels for the National Endowment for the Arts, Meet The Composer Foundation, Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation and the state arts agencies in Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio and Montana.

Currently on view in the Hoyt galleries is an exhibition of acrylic and oil paintings by Romanian-born artist Teodora Pica, who now lives in Toronto. The exhibition will run through April 14.
