LISBON

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a traffic stop that ended with a trooper shooting a driver in the ankle.

Troopers tried to stop a car for lane violations around 6 p.m. Friday on U.S. Route 30, near West Point, Ohio, according to a news release. The vehicle didn’t stop and the trooper pursued it for about seven miles during a chase in which speeds climbed to about 70 miles per hour before the car crashed on Hibbets Mill Road.

The driver fled on foot and the trooper followed him, eventually shooting the driver in the ankle, the patrol said. The driver and a passenger in the car who had minor injuries were both taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.

Kindergarten registration at Mathews School District for 2012-2013 will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday at Currie Elementary School, Ridge Road.

To attend kindergarten, a child must be 5 by Sept. 30 and have the following immunizations: five DPT, four polio, two measles, mumps and rubella, three Hepatitis B and one chicken pox. To register, parents must bring the child’s birth certificate, immunization records and Social Security card, the parent’s driver’s license, proof of residency and custody papers if applicable.

Kindergarten registration for the city schools will be from 9:15 to 11:15 a.m. and 1:15 to 2:15 p.m. Monday through Friday at Campbell Elementary School. Parents or guardians must bring the child’s birth certificate and Social Security card, custody papers if applicable, parent’s identification and three proofs of residency. To enter kindergarten, a child must be 5 before Sept. 30. State shot requirements are five DPT, four polio, two measles, mumps and rubella; three doses of Hepatitis and two varicella. A screening program will be done later.
