The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a traffic stop that ended with a trooper shooting a driver in the ankle.
Troopers tried to stop a car for lane violations around 6 p.m. Friday on U.S. Route 30, near West Point, Ohio, according to a news release. The vehicle didn’t stop and the trooper pursued it for about seven miles during a chase in which speeds climbed to about 70 miles per hour before the car crashed on Hibbets Mill Road.
The driver fled on foot and the trooper followed him, eventually shooting the driver in the ankle, the patrol said. The driver and a passenger in the car who had minor injuries were both taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
