Valley escapes brunt of powerful storms
Staff/wire report
Several possible tornadoes touched down Friday in southwest Ohio, killing one person, injuring several and damaging property as it moved through the area, authorities said.
The Mahoning Valley, spared the intensity and destruction that also ravaged Kentucky, Tennessee and Indiana, remained under a high-wind warning overnight. Today’s forecast calls for windy and much colder air with highs in the lower 40s.
Clermont County Communications Director Kathy Lehr said the Ohio victim was a man in his 50s from the Bethel area, about 35 miles southeast of Cincinnati. She said as many as eight people may have been injured.
The National Weather Service received reports of possible tornadoes in at least six Ohio cities and towns.
Lehr said the village of Moscow was especially hard hit. Some homes were destroyed and roads closed.
