taiz services
Three area churches plan Taiz prayer services during Lent.
Blessed Sacrament Church, 3020 Reeves Road NE, Warren: A service is scheduled at 7 p.m. March 27 in Holy Family Hall at the church.
First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave., Youngstown: A service will be at 7 p.m. March 22 featuring Larry Harris and the Motet Choir and choirs from St. Columba Cathedral and Poland Presbyterian Church. The candlelight service will include prayers, chanted and sung, and Scripture.
St. Charles Borromeo Church, 7345 Westview Drive, Boardman: The service at 7 p.m. April 2 will combine candlelight, silence, Scripture and song. The church also will conduct an evensong, an evening prayer from the Liturgy of the Hours with music at 7 p.m. April 3. A tenebrae service at 7 p.m. April 4 comes from the Latin meaning shadows, which symbolize man’s spiritual darkness. Fourteen candles will be extinguished one by one during the service, with the Easter candle, which represents Christ, remaining lighted.
