Grove city, pa.
Grove City College will host “Shades of the Soul,” an art exhibition featuring the works of 2010 Paint America Top 100 Artist Shari Finney from Friday to March 23, in the Pew Fine Arts Center Gallery on campus.
An opening reception will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
The exhibition, consisting of portraits, drawings and paintings, seeks to capture the essence, substance and heart of the human condition and to reflect God’s beauty, light and creation.
A native of Grove City, Finney worked as a commercial artist upon graduating from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. After a hiatus to raise her family, Finney returned to painting within the last decade, focusing on portraiture of children and adults.
Finney exhibits her work nationally and regionally and teaches in western Pennsylvania. She is a signature member of the Pittsburgh Pastel Artists League and her work is found in private collections and the Fine Art Sales Gallery of the Butler Institute of American Art.
At age 11, Finney’s pencil sketches of birds were exhibited in the Grove City Junior and Senior Women’s Club Art Show held in the Rare Book Room of Henry Buhl Library at Grove City College.
Founded in 1876, Grove City College stands on its founding ideals of faith and freedom, made possible by a commitment to Christian principles and rigorous academics at a price within the reach of families with modest means.
The college, 60 miles north of Pittsburgh, has an enrollment of 2,500 students and teaches the liberal arts, sciences and engineering. It is an advocate of the free-market economic system and accepts no federal funding. Tuition is about half the national average for private colleges.
Grove City College has been named the Top Value in Private Liberal-Arts Schools by Consumers Digest Magazine. The Intercollegiate Studies Institute has named the college one of 50 All-American Colleges, ranking it high for increasing students’ civic literacy. Grove City College has been named a Best Value and one of the best colleges in America by Princeton Review and U.S. News & World Report. The Young America’s Foundation calls Grove City College one of the Top Conservative Schools in the country.
