The Youngstown Y-Neptune swim team that practices and competes out of the YMCA Central Branch in downtown Youngstown has enjoyed a very successful season to date, including breaking numerous team and pool records.

Theresa Mikolay of Canfield set a new pool and team record in the 13-14 girls 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:12.13. She also swam the breaststroke leg of the 13-14 girls 200-yard medley relay which set a new pool record in a time of 1:59.80.

The other members of this record-setting relay include Maggie Beistel of Canfield, who swam the backstroke; Taylor Tofil of Poland, swimming butterfly and Jessie Morrow of Columbiana, who swam freestyle.

Tofil has also established three new individual records. She currently holds the 13-14 girls 200-yard individual medley team record (2:24.01), the 13-14 girls 100-yard backstroke pool record (1:04.01) and the 13-14 girls 100-yard butterfly pool record (1:03.73).

The 15 and older girls 200-yard free relay team and pool records were also set by the relay team of Jessica Hilk (Boardman), Zoe Sommers (Poland), Colleen Manning (Boardman) and Mikayla Morrow (Columbiana). Cardinal Mooney high school swimmer, Joe Boniface, set a new boys’ Division II high school sectional record in the 50-yard freestyle, swimming the event in 21.57.

The last meet of the season will be the Great Lakes Zone YMCA Swimming Championship Meet on March 16-18 at C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton.
